SYSTEM SEPARATOR

(Water-water chiller)

The water-water chillers made by Van der Heijden Labortechnik GmbH are available in versions with the same performance ratings as the standard Kühlmobil models. All models can be supplied specially to suit your cooling water network and with cooling capacities of up to 150 kW. The standard models are all fitted with a bypass, pressure gauge and flow monitor.

The unit switches off in the event of a malfunction. Temperature control is done on the secondary side by a motorised valve automatically regulating the flow of the water supplied from the building’s water supply system. The stepped motor operates in fine incremental stages to maintain a highly consistent temperature.

Compact, low noise and value for money

This type of recirculating chiller is always cheaper than a comparable vapour-compression unit, and more so with increasing system size. Similar advantages apply to casing dimensions and noise levels. Recirculating chillers are particularly well soundproofed, and the higher capacity models are extremely compact and relatively quiet. The waste heat given off into the room is almost negligible. Condensation water problems do not exist because the primary side components are fully insulated.

This type of mobile chiller can be supplied with feet rather than rollers for fixed installation.

Kühlmobil as a system separator

Many testing institutes have buildings with their own cooling water supply. This cooling water is usually too cold for cooling equipment such as a laser or an electronic microscope, or the quality of the water is poor.

Using the Kühlmobil as a system separator offers the ideal solution for these problems; what’s more – it is very compact. It operates without a compressor and hence without a cooling medium: Only the feed pump requires an energy supply, because the unit uses the cooling potential of the building’s water supply. The diagrams on the following page show you the basic operating principles. These units are much cheaper to procure than a vapour-compression refrigeration device, particularly for units with higher performance ratings.

This unit operates with a 3-way motorised valve. The analogue control signals (0–10 V) maintain constant temperatures and even out large fluctuations. The version is also available with a motorised valve regulated by a microprocessor-controlled PID regulator.

Design

So that these units can be designed for your specific circumstances, the following building water supply details are required:

  • Water outlet temperature on the building water supply side or inlet temperature to the chiller
  • The pressure difference with respect to the building water supply
  • How much water is available?
